Embellishments by Joyce

This post is primarily about creating embellishments for our projects using Shimmerz Paint products.  I thought I would share with you some of my embellishments that will be used on my upcoming Shimmerz blog posts and maybe inspire you to create some of your own.

Faux Encaustic – metal rim office tag:

My newfound go to Shimmerz product is….”Paste-eez!”  The product is dimensional and can create a lovely milky ethereal faux encaustic look without the hassle of melting bees wax.  This embellishment started with one of those white metal rim tags you find at the office supply store.  Apply some Shimmerz paint to the white part of the tag, let dry.  Apply some paint brush splatters of Shimmerz Vibez Snow Storm on top of the paint, let dry.  Affix a fussy cutting of a butterfly, let dry.  Finally, apply a coat of Paste-eez, Salt of the Earth (not too thick of a coat) with a small spatula.  The important thing to remember is to let the Paste-eez dry naturally if you want a faux encaustic appearance.  Simple and easy. Right?  Now, I want to run to the office supply store and find the smaller metal rim tags….more Paste-eez please!  Warning:  It’s addictive, and you will want to apply this product on everything.

Here’s what the embellishments look like on a finished page of my little whispers book.

Tag: Gesso; apply a little torn bit of a doily piece to one side of the tag; apply bits of fiber paper with a matte medium; using a paint brush I applied Spritz-Bamboo Leaf and Spritz-Olive Branch.

Blue Fern Studios shell chipboard

Gesso the chipboard; apply fiber paper on chipboard using a matte gel medium and dry thoroughly.

Apply a diluted application of Coloringz – Peachy Keen over chipboard, being careful to  leave small spaces of white gesso intact; then apply full strength Coloringz-Peachy Keen in valleys of the fiber paper using a small paint brush, dry each application thoroughly; apply Spritz-Taupe of the World with a very small fine paint brush in to the little valleys of the fiber paper and dry thoroughly; use a very sharp charcoal watercolor pencil in the little valleys to create depth and contrast; if the lines look too hard and harsh, apply a fine mist of water and let the products loosen  and flow, dry thoroughly; lightly go over raised areas of the chipboard with moistened Creameez-Marshallow that has been allowed to thicken so that you may use your finger to swipe some and add over the top of the raised fiber paper areas; finally apply some metallic white paste on the top raised paper areas.

Note:  Before proceeding with each application above, allow each application to dry thoroughly, otherwise you will have a muddy mess on your chipboard and the fiber paper will deteriorate.

Doesn't the Texturez -Tidy Widy make the coral in the photo below look realistic?  Love that stuff!

Watch for my June 15th design team blog post here on Shimmerz and you’ll see where these shimmery good and sumptuous chippy pieces ended up.

Quick layering with Shimmery finishing effects

Hi Everyone, Beck Beattie here today to share with you a fun card I created, all in my favourite colour!  For those that know me know I love a strong teal colour and so I decided to incorporate that into my card today.  I also wanted to highlight the perfect partnership between Chipboard and Shimmerz sprays.

So often you get a lovely piece of chipboard but you don't want the dull brown colour, but you want to keep some of it's natural elements too.  I love sprays for colouring Chipboard, but more importantly I wanted to focus in on using them as a finishing spray.

Shimmerz Products Used:
Shimmeringz - Baby's Breath
Creameez - Ride the Tide

To add a finishing touch to the chipboard piece layered onto my card I simply took the 'Baby's Breath' Shimmeringz spray and gave a few sprays.  The sprays in the Shimmeringz collection add a beautiful shimmery coat over your project without any colour, just the color of the shimmer.  They are so sweet to work with and often a 'go to' for me finishing a page.

I then added some sweet color to match in with the base of the card using the 'Ride the Tide' Creameez using a sponge to add soft colour around the edge of my decorative label I used to stamp my sentiment on.

As you can see the card comes together quite quickly but uses some fun and stunning effects!

I Hope you enjoyed my share today.

Happy Crafting!

Journal With Irit

Hi! Irit here and I'm so excited to share my latest projects for Shimmerz! For the month of May I decided to play in my art journal. Here's what I created-

I started with AcriTonez in 3 Sheets to the Wind and Pinkadelic, and the rest of the mess was using Coloringz in Pink Stilettos, Pretty in Pink and No Yoking. You can see the entire process in the video tutorial I prepared!

Here are some close ups, and don't forget to mention my name when placing an order on the Shimmerz site to receive a freebie!

Altered Bottle with Shona

Hello Shimmerz fans!! Today I have a fun altered bottle to share. I love turning recycleable things into art pieces.

I started by covering the bottle with gesso. After that was dry I added some crackle paste and stencil work with Salt of the Earth Paste-eez….perfect for added textures!

Next I added that Shimmerz color to make my piece pop! Because I have gone with a beach theme, I used Hot Fudge Vibez, Well Blue Me Down and Don’t Be Suede Coloringz.

The final touches are splatters of Penny 4 Your Thoughts Inklingz.

Add some shells, starfish and twine and this project is complete. I have already gave it away as a house warming gift..and they love it!

Check out our Facebook page for lots of inspiration and share with us what you created with Shimmerz! Look for us on Instagram too! Don’t forget to mention my name at the store checkout for your free sample of Shimmerz!!

Take care and happy scrapping!

Just Jump | Adrienne Alvis

Hello Shimmerz fans! I'm here today with a fun layout that I created using some Coloringz, Vibez, and Dazzlerz paints...

I started by using a doily-shaped stencil from my stash and misting some Coloringz non-shimmering spray ink in Well Blue Me Down, No Yoking, and Mandarin Mai-Tai on a piece of white card stock. I also sprayed some Vibez shimmering spray ink in Blue Jeans as well to create the background.

After the mists dried, I layered my photos on top of the doily-shapes that I created with the stencils and mists and adhered them down using some foam dimensional adhesive.

I took another polka-dotted stencil from my stash and some Dazzlerz dimensional paste in Jelly Bean Green to create even more dimension on my page. The Dazzlerz paste has just the right amount of shimmer in it and I love how it helps add texture to my layout!

After the Dazzlerz dried, I layered lots of embellishments around my layout to accent my photos and bring out some of the lovely Shimmerz colors that I used.

I also layered a few patterned paper strips at the top and bottom of my page for even more color coordination!

Thanks so much for stopping by the Shimmerz blog! I hope you have a fabulous day!
